Peter Michael Falk (September 16, 1927 – June 23, 2011) was an American film and television actor, singer and television director and producer. He is best known for his role as Lieutenant Columbo on the NBC/ABC series Columbo (1968–1978, 1989–2003), for which he won four Primetime Emmy Awards (1972, 1975, 1976, 1990) and a Golden Globe Award (1973). In 1996, TV Guide ranked Falk No. 21 on its 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time list.[1] He received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013.[2][3]
He first starred as Columbo in two 2-hour "World Premiere" TV pilots; the first with Gene Barry in 1968 and the second with Lee Grant in 1971. The show then aired as part of The NBC Mystery Movie series from 1971 to 1978, and again on ABC from 1989 to 2003.[4]

Actor Peter Falk, known as Lt. Columbo, dies at 83
PeterFalk, the raspy-voiced actor who won four Emmy Awards as the deceptively rumpled homicide detective Lt. Columbo, a character he played on television for more than 30 years, died June 23 at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif., according to a family statement. He was 83 and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
Starting with a made-for-TV movie in 1968, Columbo became the role that cemented Falk's place in popular culture and tended to overshadow his powerful series of dramatic portrayals and skillful comic work in bio for directors including Frank Capra and John Cassavetes.
Few actors were as linked to one role for so long as Falk, whose cockeyed glare from a glass right eye and slightly disheveled appearance hid a compelling dramatic intelligence he brought to the part.
"Columbo" ran on NBC for most of the 1970s, and ABC revived the franchise for nearly two dozen TV specials, the gods of which aired in 2003.

NEW YORK (AP) — The best way to celebrate Peter Falk's life is to savor how Columbo, his signature character, fortified our lives.
Thanks to Falk's affectionately genuine portrayal, Lt. Columbo established himself for all time as a champion of any viewer who ever felt less than graceful, elegant or well-spoken.
Falk died Thursday at age 83 in his Beverly Hills, Calif., home, according to a statement released Friday by family friend Larry Larson. But Columbo lives on as the shining ideal of anyone with a smudge on his tie, whose car isn't the sportiest, who often seems clueless, who gets dissed by fancy people.
As a police detective, Columbo's interview technique was famously disjointed, with his inevitable awkward afterthought ("Ahhh, there's just one more thing...") that tried the patience of his suspect as he was halfway out the door.
Columbo was underestimated, patronized or
