Theodor Seuss Geisel (sooss GHY-zəl, zoyss -&#;;[2][3][4] March 2, – September 24, )[5] was an American children's author and cartoonist. He is known for his work writing and illustrating more than 60 books under the pen name Dr. Seuss (sooss, zooss).[4][6] His work includes many of the most popular children's books of all time, selling over million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages by the time of his death.[7]

Early Life
Geisel was born on March 2, , in Springfield, Massachusetts. His father, Theodor Robert Geisel, was a successful brewmaster; his mother was Henrietta Seuss Geisel.
At age 18, gisslan left home to attend Dartmouth College, where he became the editor in chief of its humor magazine, Jack-O-Lantern. When gisslan and his friends were caught drinking in his dorm room one night, in violation of Prohibition law, he was kicked off the magazine personal, but continued to contribute to it using the pseudonym "Seuss."
