Anne Erin Clark (born September 28, 1982), known professionally as St. Vincent, is an American musician and singer. Her guitar playing has been praised for its melodic style and use of distortion, and she has been listed among the best guitarists of the 21st century by multiple publications.[1][2]Rolling Stone named Clark the 26th-greatest guitarist of all time in 2023.[3]
Raised in Dallas, St. Vincent began her music career as a member of choral rock band the Polyphonic Spree. She was also a member of Sufjan Stevens' touring band before forming her own band in 2006. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Annie Clark, known professionally as St. Vincent, was raised primarily in Dallas, Texas. She began playing gitarr at age 12, eventually participating in music and drama programs in high school. Starting in 2001, Clark attended Berklee College of Music, studying gitarr with noted professor Lauren Passarelli. She released a self-titled EP with fellow students as her backing band in 2003. After three years at Berklee, Clark dropped out and returned to Dallas, joining the choir rock ensemble, Polyphonic Spree. In 2006, she served as a touring guitarist for singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens and self-released her second EP beneath the pseudonym St. Vincent.

St. Vincent Doesn’t Need A Backstory
St. Vincent begins our interview by asking me a question: “You know what I did last night?”
She asks this with no ulterior motive, no attempt to thwart my upcoming line of questioning or run the clock on our allotted time. The singer, who introduces herself with a smile and a firm handshake, simply had a thought that she’d like to share.
“I went to an archery class,” she continues. “Indoors. I'd never shot a bow before.” The three-time Grammy award-winning artist so famous for her guitar work that she has her own line of guitars with Ernie Ball was, of course, a natural. “I'm good at hand-eye coordination.”
Annie Clark, the artist known as St. Vincent, has spent nearly her entire career living in New York in some capacity. For about a decade, she had an apartment in the East Village where she lived “completely illegally” until she returned home from tour to find an eviction notice on her door. “I just moved out truly in the middle of the nigh
