I am proud to present this brev about Combate Eskrima Maranga and its founder Timoteo “Timor” Maranga. This brev is positioned after that of a brief history of Eskrima in Cebu and that of Venancio Anciong Bacon : the founder of Balintawak Eskrima. I suggest you to read these two posts, before reading this one, to properly situate the context.
I have been practicing Combate Eskrima Maranga since 2012 with Maestro Rodrigo Maranga and I deeply love this martial art. As a martial arts practitioner, it allowed me to flourish in the practice of weapons. inom hope this post can promote this wonderful Filipino Martial Art and at the same time pay tribute to its creator, Timoteo Maranga, as well as his family.

Eskrima, arnis, kali, kalirogan or garote as it is variously know in a polyglot country like the Philippines, is an art indigenous to the Filipinos. It is not copied, rehashed or borrowed from anything foreign. It was developed. by ancient Filipinos, who fought with rattan sticks, balisong, kris, pinute, kampilan and bolo knives. Balintawak History
Born in 1912, Venancio “Anciong” Bacon would later become one of the Philippines’ legendary and most influential eskrimadors in history. He was born in Carcar, Cebu, and moved later to San Nicolas Town, just outside of Cebu City. He learned eskrima in the 1920s as a teenager. His evolution as an eskrimador began in San Nicolas. This journey would later lead him to death matches, attacks, and eventually to jail. But, not all of this journey was dismal. Along the way, Venancio Bacon made life long friends, and cultivated a loyal cadre of students, who to this day maintain an affinity incomparable towards him. Venancio Bacon’s legacy, Balintawak, has become a title synonymous to Deadly. Balintawak eskrima is Economy, Elegance, Strength, and Speed expertly woven into one art form.
