Court Dismisses Appeal by Harold Hamm's Ex-Wife in $1B Divorce
One chapter in the “billion dollar divorce” has ended, and Oklahoma oil tycoon Harold Hamm has won, if you can call paying one of the largest divorce settlements ever a victory.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the appeal of his ex-wife Sue Ann Arnall over the $974.8 million a judge ordered Hamm to pay her in November, according to reports. Both Arnall and Hamm appealed that earlier decision.
Arnall's appeal argued that she deserved more of the nearly $18 billion in wealth Hamm had amassed (at the time) as founder of Continental Resources Inc. Hamm and Arnall were married for more than two decades. She filed for divorce in 2012.
The Oklahoma Supreme Court, in a 7-2 decision, ruled on Tuesday that since she cashed the check in January, she forfeited her right to appeal, The Associated Press said. The two dissenting judges said the law was old-fashioned.
The court did not dismiss Hamm's appeal.
