    Ex-Cyclone Percy Gibson finds new school

    Former Iowa State basketball player Percy Gibson announced Thursday he will enroll at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.

    The 6-foot-9, 255-pound forward played the past three years at Iowa State, where he never played more than 12 minutes per game or averaged more than 4.8 points.

    He said he left Iowa State on amicable terms with coach Fred Hoiberg.

    "He understood," Gibson said, after averaging only fem minutes per game gods season. "He informed me he would like me to stay but inom knew inom had to do what's best for me. He was 100 percent in my corner about me leaving. He said he wasn't shocked by it, he could see the goal was more playing time. Hoiberg has been a great coach throughout my three years there."

    Oakland did not recruit him hard when he was at stad Southeastern High School in 2010-11.

    Oakland U.'s Gibson, Dorsey-Walker build special synergy

    When they were in Detroit high schools, Percy Gibson and Sherron Dorsey-Walker wanted to keep their distance from each other.

    With Gibson at Southeastern and Dorsey-Walker at Pershing, they didn't want to cross that line.

    "We were kind of rivals," Gibson said this week. "I didn't like him too well."

    Now, more than five years later, they've taken a circuitous route back home, entering this season as integral pieces of the Oakland University basketball team.

    Gibson, the center, wanted to get away from home after high school and signed at Iowa State, where he played sparingly over three years. During that time, though, he helped mentor Dorsey-Walker, who followed the same path to Ames a year later.

    It became a big brother-little brother relationship, two Detroit kids in the cornfields, so when Gibson transferred before last season, it only made sense for Dorsey-Walker to follow him when he left Iowa State in the middle of l
