I am a rather elderly man. The nature of my avocations for the last thirty years has brought me into more than ordinary contact with what would seem an interesting and somewhat singular set of men, of whom as yet nothing that I know of has ever been written: -I mean the law-copyists or scriveners. I have known very many of them, professionally and privately, and if I pleased, could relate divers histories, at which good-natured gentlemen might smile, and sentimental souls might weep. But I waive the biographies of all other scriveners for a few passages in the life of Bartleby, who was a scrivener of the strangest I ever saw or heard of. While of other law-copyists I might write the complete life, of Bartleby nothing of that sort can be done. I believe that no materials exist for a full and satisfactory biography of this

Richard Gove Scrivenor (b. September 18, New Haven, Connecticut[1]) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician.[2] Scrivenor is an autoharp and guitar player,[3][4] and includes the instrument in many of his songs. He plays predominantly country and folk music.
History
[edit]Gove moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the early s after enlisting for four years in the United States Navy. In Nashville, he signed with noted music publisher Acuff-Rose, and then a recording and writing contract with TRX records.[5] Scrivenor signed a management and booking deal with the Don Light Talent Agency and toured with fellow agency artists Delbert McClinton, Jimmy Buffett[4] and the Original Coral Reefer Band. Scrivenor had played in a duo previously with Coral Reefer bassist Harry Dailey.[6]
